With Love from the Dust Bowl Faeries

This weekend I got a call from The Dust Bowl Faeries (all of them, on speaker phone) while they were on their lunch break playing sets at New York Fringe fest at the “Spirit Room”.

They had just released a new EP, and a video for their song “Film Noir” and I got a 5 min convo with them about the EP and the new song. Fringe Fest is all things dark, and weird, with Tarot readings, and occult shops, and all that is just weird and wonderful. The perfect place for a Goth Polka band to be playing at. Ryder even mentioned that Hazel, her spirit animal (a Barbados buck) has a crush on one of the animals in the taxidermy hall.

The song “Film Noire” Ryder Cooley explained that it was about the crimes of the world today, Political Corruption, Ecocide, Global Warming, and all on the world scale that they are today.

This video was just released the week prior, and it manages to catch all of that, from a very old school German pre WWII visual, much like the old Dr Mabuse films that scared the hell out of me as a kid.

The new EP is called “Magic and Mayhem” and it just sweetly tickles that darkness inside you. We hope to have the Faeries on for an interview soon.
