Known for its simplistic minimalism, London’s The Sick Man of Europe manages to keep it consistent on their sophomore effort, The Intermittent Signal.
Stark but almost-danceable rhythms and repetitive chanting lyrics delivered with a dark deadpan are quickly becoming the band’s trademark. Influences of Krautrock and dark English rockers such as Joy Division and Sad Lovers & Giants are evident throughout. However, The Intermittent Signal is not some 1980s rehash despite the influences worn on its sleeve.
TSMOE is something that is hard to find these days, a breath of fresh air in a genre that often gets locked into a box of predictability. Recommended.
